WASHINGTON — Three area fire departments have received federal grants, U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo announced Thursday.

The departments are among six in South Jersey that will share $843,429 from the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program, said LoBiondo, R-2.

The Vineland Fire Departmentwas awarded $600,000 for the purchase of a new fire truck.

Fire Chief Robert Pagnini said the money will be used to replace a 30-year-old ladder truck currently in use by Station 6.

He said the fire department has applied for the grant for the past three years, but was rejected the previous two times.

“I don’t know that we would have been able to replace the truck without this grant considering the current budget situation,”

Pagnini said.

Rosenhayn Volunteer Fire & Rescue received $43,947, and the Willow Grove Fire Company in Pittsgrove will get $68,020.

The grants are used to pay for equipment, protective gear, emergency vehicles and other resources for firefighters.
