DiCicco Bill Pushes for Open Government, Mayor Blackberry Not Happy

February 17, 2010

Shortly after being sworn in as Gloucester Township Mayor, I pointed out that among Dave Mayer’s first orders of business was to silence detractors by imposing limits during the public-comments portion of meetings (Resolution: R-10-01-028).

Enter Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco.

The freshman Republican the 4th District recently introduced legislation that “guarantees at least three minutes speaking time to each person who wants to weigh in during a public meeting.”  The bill also would “force municipal governments to delay votes when the public comments portion of a meeting exceeds the scheduled length of the meeting itself.”

The Courier Post describes Mayer as “perplexed by why DiCicco was involving himself in the township’s affairs,” quoting him coming off as deaf to the public’s concerns on, well, being heard:

“If there is a harm being done, the Legislature should get involved and they have that right,” Mayer said. “But I don’t believe in our case there’s any harm being done.”

On one hand you have Mayer, a career politician who takes his cues from South Jersey party bosses and whose full-time job is lobbying on behalf of monopolistic special interests.  On the other you have a political outsider in DiCicco standing up for the rights of the people he represents.

It’s hard to believe that Camden Democrats don’t see the harm in their misguided politics of public exclusion.  It’s more likely that they just don’t care.  Voters sent a message by sending Domenick DiCicco and Chris Christie to Trenton last November.  They already sending a message to Mayor Mayer.

Its a terrible loss for Gloucester Twnship for loosing Cindy Rau Hatton who was open and accessable and I hope council is ousted for their smug attitude toward the needs of the people along with the coolaide drinking mayor. A RECALL would be a great idea!

Please put me in touch with active members of the Republic Party in Winslow Township, New Jersey. I would like to disucss an educational agenda, strongly supported by our Governor Christie. As you know, if the party is to increase memebrship of the middle class minorities, here is a great idea.
The Govenor is supporting the idea that parents who don’t wish thier children enrolled in the Wnislow School district’s Middle School and High School, and could not afford to send their children to privat schools, then there is the option to open a charter school. I suggust we explore to open a middle school in Winslow, as a start. Time is of the essence.
Please contact me to further discuss this great educational option being made available for our middle class residents. I have my two boys in the Winslow schools. Thanks -A. Gass

Thank you Assemblyman DiCicco for taking such quick action on this situation in Gloucester Township. It was very disturbing that the first order of business of Mayor Mayer was to invoke time limitations on the residents who take the time to come out to Council meetings so they are aware of what is going on in their township. I think it is commendable that the Bill would have the provision in it to afford everyone who wants to speak the opportunity to do so, and if not, to hold off on casting votes! Since the beginning of the year when Council & Mayor passed the Resolution invoking time limits, there have been people who have not had an opportunity to speak because the 30 minute time was used up. Kudos to the Assemblyman. I hope that other Legislators look at this bill and become Co-Sponsors!

We need legislators like DiCicco who care. We need people who are not going to put up with Bully Politicians like Mayer. Mayer is a man who tries to divide people and is definately a machine extension. He is slick and slimey. He has no character and it is clear that he is a vindictive man who needs his political boss to advise him. He wants to end the meetings in a hurry so he can get to his next job. He is so full of it. People are struggling and this guy have multiple jobs and brags about it. He gets people to start rumors. Mayer is a Troublemaker.

    Assemblyman DiCicco is the Man.
