Ambrosino Calls for Keashen’s Resignation, Platt Calls Liar “Too Valuable an Asset”

February 25, 2010

Dan Keashen

From today’s Courier Post:

Last week, Chief of Staff Dan Keashen lied to the Courier-Post about the mayor’s whereabouts during an early February snowstorm, then lied by saying the mayor was on a snowplow and followed that with another lie that Platt only spent two weeks in Florida…

The truth was Platt was more than 1,000 miles away in Florida on a monthlong vacation — something he did in 2003 when costly snowstorms also hit Cherry Hill.

Yesterday,  Cherry Hill Republican Committee Chairman Richard Ambrosino demanded Platt take action, issuing the following statement via a press release:

“Residents demand and deserve that their elected officials and staff serve in a manner that is truthful and transparent.  Neither Platt nor Keashen have exhibited either of those characteristics in light of this story.

“Keashen’s taxpayer-funded, $80,000 position demands he be both competent and accountable.  In this instance, he’s being neither.  Mayor Platt owes it to the people that pay both of their salaries to assure they are not being lied to or receiving false information, especially when we are under a state of emergency.

“Whether Keashen was speaking on his own or at the Mayor’s request, is irrelevant.  His personal irresponsibility is unacceptable, and Mayor Platt’s unwavering support is unjustifiable.  As such, I call on Mayor Platt to call for Mr. Keashen’s resignation.”

Platt, still in sunny Florida as Cherry Hill braces for what could be another foot or more of snow, has no intentions asking for Keashen’s resignation, noting, “He’s too valuable an asset to the township.”

What Mayor Platt really means is that Keashen is “too valuable an asset to Bernie Platt.”

When questioned by the Courier Post whether the incident with Keashen would make it more difficult for the media to take the township at its word, Platt said, “Dan is the spokesman for the township, and anything more that has to be said will come from him. Any statements coming from the township come from Dan.”

Noted Ambrosino, “I can’t fathom why an official like that would spin such a yarn to a reporter. I don’t know how anybody can have faith in the pronouncements this guy’s going to make moving forward after he lied about something that was so ridiculous to lie about.”

While Platt continues to stonewall and stand by his mouthpiece, to his credit, Council President David Fleisher “said he would consider proposing an ordinance if necessary, and that Cherry Hill officials should consider letting residents know via the township’s Web site when an acting mayor is in charge.”  This shouldn’t sit well with Mayor Platt who insists on having any public information run through his own personal information clearinghouse.

It’s time for the Mayor to take responsibility for his and his staff’s actions.  Added Fleisher, “I do find a monthlong vacation ill-advised. Despite his continuous contact with town hall, you can’t avoid that perception with him away.”

But Platt and Keashen will certainly try.

The Mayor of CHT has a CoS? WTF? I am the Mayor of Waretown and the Twsp Administrator, Chairman of the Police Dept, Fire Dept, First Aid Squad, Water & Sewer Dept. I get paid $5,800 per year. Yes, that’s less than 100 bucks a week after taxes.

    CHT: Taxes @ $7,357/yr; crime rate 34/100
    Waretown: Taxes @ 4,499/yr; crime rate 18/100

Hey, I’ll work for CHT for $50 K a year..Wretown charges half the taxes & half the crime in Waretown!

If the CoS is the boss, what do you need Platt for? Seems like his CoS actually runs the town…BTW, was the CoS ever elected by the people?
