David Redlawsk professor and blogger for Rutgers-Eagleton Institute of Politics released a poll gauging voter intent for the 2010 Congressional races in New Jersey.  Realizing the election is eight months away he believes most incumbents are safe but, statewide Republicans are essentially at parity with Democrats on the generic ballot. Given the way Congressional districts are drawn the margin of Democrat incumbent victories equals the margin of Republican incumbent victories.

Except for the case of 3rd District Democratic incumbent John Adler (which we did not poll specifically, but simply looking at the challenge developing against him), incumbents of both parties appear in pretty good shape this early on.

The poll also found that independents are more likely to vote Republican this year.

Statewide, it appears that independent voters lean towards Republicans for the 2010 election as they did in the 2009 gubernatorial election when Chris Christie out-polled Jon Corzine with independents, 60 percent to 30 percent.

This really make you wonder is New Jersey Really a blue state or could it be a shade of purple?
