DiCicco: When Will Democrats Follow Through On Tool Kit Legislation?

September 14, 2010

Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco

Assembly Republican Domenick DiCicco, said that for all the promises made by Assembly Democrat leaders this year to make property tax relief a major focus, they have done nothing but paid lip service to the people of New Jersey. DiCicco said that yesterday’s Assembly committee hearings that were primarily devoted to revisiting items in the budget that was passed with bipartisan support was wasted time that should have been spent discussing necessary tool kit legislation.

“Over the past eight years, the Democrats haven’t held hearings to revisit budget items as they did today,”

said DiCicco.

“But we haven’t had a Republican governor since then, either. The tool kit legislation that supports the Cap 2.0 law is critical for providing relief to taxpayers, yet the Assembly was in a summertime slumber.

“The clock is ticking and the Democrats haven’t fulfilled their promises to act on the proposals,”

continued DiCicco.

“Twelve committees were formed in June to evaluate property tax reform over the summer and not one was convened. While their leaders said Governor Christie’s 2.0 property tax cap was ‘music to the ears of Democrats,’ they clearly have no sense of urgency to make property tax relief a reality.”

DiCicco noted that in June the Democrats announced the formation of 12 committees to review issues regarding property tax reform during the summer, though no meetings ever took place as announced.

“My Democrat colleagues in the Assembly voted in favor of the Cap 2.0 legislation in July, but have done nothing since to forge ahead in the effort to make property tax relief happen,”

stated DiCicco.

“Today’s agendas plainly show they are more interested in playing politics than governing, and is why the public has a jaded view of their ability to lead. They need to join with the Assembly Republicans and address the remaining tool kit legislation or remain a caucus that talks more than it delivers.”

If the Democratic Assembly has decided to hide from the real issues facing NJ they will be looking for new jobs after 2011 elections! Citizens are behind Christie’s plans to stop this ship from sinking. If Democrats just want to “rearrange the deck chairs” to avoid decisions that could effect their Special Interest owners…I vote for throwing them overboard to lighten the load in 2011!
