Adler Still Will Not Come Clean

October 12, 2010

Runyan and Adler

The Adler v. Runyan debate provided some surprises but mostly was predictable.  It was no surprise the room was packed.  The Alder supporters were about equal to the Runyan supporters.

The big surprise of the night was that John Adler showed up.  The big disappointment was that Adler would not come clean on the tea party scandal.  Here is the most telling quote from today’s Courier Post;

Runyan asked Adler to explain his campaign’s connection to Peter DeStefano, the “NJ Tea Party” candidate whom Democrats helped get on the ballot.

“I thank you for the question and I’m surprised that’s what your question is about. We have almost 10 percent unemployment. We have a massive deficit. If you want to talk about that, we can talk about that,” Adler said, eliciting boos from the packed room.

Adler sought to change the topic and went on to criticize Runyan’s tax plan and apparent support from hard-right special interest groups. He was interrupted by audience members yelling, “Answer the question!”

Despite the crowds overwhelming demand, John Adler would not answer the question.  He was physically at the debate but his non answers made many wonder why he even got up on stage.  He gave a weak at best denial of any involvement in the tea party scandal.

“I was very clear about this issue when I first heard about it: I want to have nothing to do with it. I told my people to have nothing to do with it. As far as I know, we have nothing to do with it,” Adler said, as some audience members laughed and jeered.

The laughter from the crowd was very telling.  The entire campaign John Adler has tried to sound like a Republican.  He touts his no vote on heath care and self describes as an independent minded centrist.  But last night his denial of any involvement in the DeStefano candidacy make him sound very much like a republican. …. Richard Nixon.  Read Adler’s denial again and see if you can hear Nixon uttering “I am not a crook“.

This is not to say Adler did not have flashes of  honesty.  It took a while, but toward the end of the debate John Adler did say,

“I think sometimes Democrats get hostile to business,”

After a 20 plus year career as a Camden County Democrat and one of the worst economy in the modern era Congressman Adler can now say his party is hostile to job producing business. What a relief!

    Congratulations Jon…you kicked Adlers butt last night in the debate. Not by trick answers or fact bending…you did it with honest straight talk! Adler’s opening remarks told the tale of the night. He was trying to say, ” Look I am the expert, this guy Runyan doesn’t know anything and YOU will all see that by the end of this debate!” From that moment on what Adler showed the crowd was a self promoting, smarmy politician who avoids the facts and the truth at ALL costs. Jon your replies were excellent stay with it! By the time the night was over what John Adler showed the audience was that he cannot talk straight to the people of District 3…he avoids direct answers and he laughingly tries to take on the persona of a “fiscal conservative”. The man will do and say anything to anybody to be re-elected! He is toast, but he just does not know it yet!

    Elect Jon Runyan November 2 and send a man who will listen to and work for the people of NJD-3 to Washington!
