DiCICCO: DRPA’s PRIORITY SHOULD BE REFORM,NOT RETAINING FAILED MANAGEMENT TEAM

TOLL PAYERS DESERVE REFORM AND NEW LEADERSHIP AT DRPA, NOT THREE MORE YEARS OF UNACCOUNTABLE LEADERSHIP

Assemblyman Domenick DiCicco repeated his call today for reform and new leadership at the Delaware River Port Authority after a report about one agency commissioner’s proposal to retain the embattled CEO for three more years.

“DRPA officials’ sole focus should be implementing the reforms that will assure toll payers that their dollars will not be wasted on patronage, lavish perks and extravagant trips, not looking for ways to continue a management team that has failed the public,”

DiCicco, said.

“But even after reform is enacted, the DRPA will never regain the trust and confidence of the people if the same crew continues to run the authority.”

In August, DiCicco and Pennsylvania Representative Michael Vereb called for new leadership while proposing comprehensive reforms. But DRPA Commissioner John Dougherty is set to proposed extending CEO John Matheussen’s contract for three years – with a 16 percent reduction in pay, according to the Gloucester County Times.

“Exorbitant pay at the DRPA should be reduced, but those responsible for those bloated salaries have to go,” DiCicco said. “Current leadership made a mess of the DRPA and we need a fresh start to clean it up.”

Once again the DRPA proves it is incapable of managing itself, and the toll payers money in a business like manner. In the private sector, board members who misappropriate funds are removed. All these members should be investigated and held accountable for their illegal and/or unethical decisions. Patronage, special interest donations, nepotism, no bid contracts, no show jobs, free passes, credit card abuse, closed door meetings, pay to play, and that may just be the start of what is wrong with the DRPA Board.

I am so greatfull that Assemblyman Domenic DiCicco will not allow the dust to settle on these issues. This board should be replaced with elected individuals that will be paid to collect tolls and manage the daily operations of maintaining our bridges and ports, and nothing else!
