U.S. Senate Rejects Ban on Budget Earmarks

December 1, 2010

US Senator Robert Menendez

It’s official Senators Lautenberg and Menendez publicly declared their love of pork.  Make no mistake plenty of New Jersey Republicans love  Cherry Almond Glazed Pork, Ham with Coconut and Kiwi, and Parmesan Pork Chops.  (You can click the links for the recipes.) Unfortunately,  that is not the pork we are referencing.

Our US Senators decided they could not live without earmarks and both voted against a three-year moratorium on the practice.    Earmarks are special line items for local projects or priorities that members of Congress add to spending bills.

The Menendez and Lautenberg vote is a clear reminder that there is a difference between Republicans and Democrats in New Jersey.  Jon Runyan was very quick to disavow the practice of earmarks.  Once again we are reminded elections do have consequences.
