The following joint statement was released this evening by Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), who serves on the House Republican Steering Committee, and Congressman-elect Jon Runyan (NJ-3), regarding news that the House Republican Steering Committee was recommending the freshman legislator for the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs for the 112th Congress:

“It is my honor to announce that we have recommended to the full House Republican Conference that Congressman-elect Jon Runyan serve on the House Armed Services Committee, the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Veterans Affairs for the upcoming 112th Congress,”

said Congressman Bob Goodlatte (R-VA), who will make recommendations to the full conference.

“All three committees serve interests vital to New Jersey 3rd Congressional District and it is my honor to make this recommendation on behalf of Jon and his constituents.”

“I am humbled that the steering committee members saw fit to recommend me for these three important committee assignments,” said Runyan (R-Mount Laurel), pointing out that former Congressman Jim Saxton served on both the House Armed Services Committee and Natural Resources during his time in the House.

“Serving on House Armed Services, Natural Resources and Veteran’s Affairs will allow me to be a forceful advocate for Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, the needs of military families and veterans who call the district home, and the importance of a clean ocean and safe beaches to the tourism industry and quality of life in Ocean County.”
